Danielle’s Story: HOW TO GET BIKINI READY IN 6 MONTHS
Less than half a year ago, Danielle Chapman came to Be the Change Fitness with a big idea, to enter a Bikini Competition in 6 months. Join us as we sit down with Danielle to discuss her success and motivations for throwing caution to the wind and just going for it.
What made you decide to do a competition & when did you start training?
I joined Be the Change Fitness in March of this year. I trained with Christie for about a week and then some how decided that I wanted to become a bikini competitor. Not sure how or why I decided this, but I brought it up to Christie and simply asked her if she thought that it would be possible for me to achieve.
I was 172 lbs at the time and not in any sort of decent physical shape. I could barely run one lap without feeling like I was going to die. When I asked Christie about being able to do a bikini competition she said that it would be possible for me to achieve in 5 short months.
” I wanted to accomplish this goal without taking anything away from spending time with my daughter.”
SO from that moment on EVERYTHING changed. I changed my diet to seriously strict clean eating and started working out with Christie 3 times a week plus doing my own fasted cardio every morning. I wanted to do this crazy thing because it was a huge challenge for me. I LOVE food and having to be so strict on myself has truly been the hardest part of it all. I wanted to accomplish this goal without taking anything away from spending time with my daughter. SUCCESS! I was able to achieve my personal goals and keep everything else as normal as possible. I found something that has been extremely challenging and that I truly love to do. The main goal was to compete in a bikini competition. It has been the hardest 5 months of my life, but I do not regret one second of my decision to do this.
What does a normal day look like for you while you’ve been training?
I am a mother to a 22 month old little girl, I work full time and also teach yoga to swimmers 2 times a week. I start my average day getting up at 5:30 am to do my fasted cardio for 30-45 minutes. I love sleeping so that was super difficult for me to turn from a miserable decision to a habit. I work out with Christie on my lunch breaks 3 times a week for an hour. I will prepare all my meals for the week on Sundays and then during the week I would still cook meals for my husband and daughter. I have had days of sheer exhaustion, but when I get home my full attention is on my daughter and giving her anything I have left. Again, the whole goal of doing this was to be able to accomplish something great for myself and not take away from being a mother to my daughter or taking anything from my job.
You’re change has been impressive, what the heck do you eat?
“What did I eat……haha…that’s funny!”
For the first 4 months I ate clean, healthy food. Mostly egg whites, chicken breast, turkey breast and veggies of my choice. I would eat fruit and to get fats, I would eat peanut butter or avocados. That is basically it. I had a few cheat meals during this 4 month period. For the last month I have eaten only chicken breast and asparagus for the most part. I drink a minimum of a gallon of water a day. It has not been easy, but I knew that I could not accomplish my goals without changing how I ate. It was that simple.
“I knew that I could not accomplish my goals without changing how I ate. It was that simple.”
Either eat however I wanted to or change it. I was always the person that would work out and then go eat a hamburger because I just burned those calories, that makes sense….NOT! When Christie told me that I could become a bikini competitor that changed everything. That was it, that started the clean eating revolution for me!
Clearly you have a ton of free time, did you ever want to quit?
I never wanted to quit but I had several moments thinking that I was never going to reach this crazy goal that I had set for my self. I have set weight goals for myself about 100 times and have never once reached them.
One month after my daughter was born I weighed in at 222 lbs! I was FAT and no one told me. I lost about 50 lbs of that on my own over a year and a half period. I started Be the Change Fitness weighing in at 172 and have lost 27 more since then. I am now 145 and I am wearing a size 6! WHAT!
“If I can, then anyone can”
I started with BTC wearing a size 12. Seeing changes everyday made the thoughts of quitting or self doubt go away. I am just now at a point where I can say “yeah, I look okay” and accept a compliment when it is given to me. I push myself very hard and set high goals for myself. I wanted to do this for myself and show people that if I can, then anyone can. It just depends on your drive and dedication to your goals.
I have found a love of body building from starting this journey and I plan to continue that. I plan to do more competitions in the future and strive to bring a better package to the stage every time. As far as my workouts go, you would have to ask Christie about that! HAHA! All I know is that I never want to go back to being the way I was.
What’s the single most important piece of advice you can give someone who wants to do something similar?
Set a goal and just do it. That may sound simple and obvious but it is truly not. You have to change your mind before you can change your body. If you are working out and never see any changes then its probably a poor diet. Never be afraid to push yourself and stick to what you want most. You never know who you are inspiring and who is watching you. I hope that my journey has inspired at least 1 person and I know that I am proud of everything that I have accomplished.
“You have to change your mind before you can change your body.”
Thanks for your time today, and awesome job Danielle!
